How February Ended, Pt. 1

Well, neither Jon nor I made it to 40, not that we had any delusions of doing so, so in the end we made out with just over 10, not bad when you consider there’s a recording for all songs, had they just needed to be "written" I’m sure we’d have more to show for it, but then you’d have to wait and we’d have to wait to hear them, or god forbid: play them for each other, which woudl effect Jon’s and My ability to drink beer and smoke cigarettes as we listened to everything.

And we like our beer and cigarettes.

Anyway, I hope to expand on this more, as I’m sure Jon does, but personally I’m hoping we can do it as a video blog, writing about writing songs is utterly assinine, if you ask me. So, anyway, despite any contradictions that lie in my previous blog posts on the progress of The Februarian Revolt, this is what I came out with in the end to cushion the blow of that horrible, horrible month of February.

  1. REVOLT
  2. MOTHER/DAUGHTER DOMINATRIX TEAM
  3. “A HEADLONG JUMP TO A PREDETERMINED CONCLUSION”
  4. I SUCK AT FRIENDSHIP
  5. AN ODE TO PUBLIC SERVICE (FEATURING FORMER PRESIDENT RICHARD M. NIXON)
  6. CLIMB BACK ON MY HORSE
  7. VULTURES ON LSD
  8. SLEEPWALKIN’ BLUES
  9. LIE TO YOU
  10. I DREAM OF THE SEA
  11. GOODBYE TO THE ONE I LOVE
  12. HOUSE OF THE LORD
  13. MY FINAL GOODBYE

FIH, 4: “40 is out of reach”

Jon is too right on that one. Why on earth did we pick 40? 20 certainly seems like a given, but 40? I just don’t see it happening…

14. I Dream Of The Sea

15. My Final Goodbye

16. Shackin’ Up

40 is out of reach

6.  [untitled]

7. good excuses

8. downwind

9. fanatic capitalist

10. submit/admit

lyric:

"great depression in the 20’s, is back in fashion in my 20’s
the temperature’s are in the 20’s… this is getting funny."

FIH 3

9. The Kum & Go (The Art of Relationship Communication)

10. Animal Crackers

11. Goodbye to The One I Love

12. I will Continue to Lie to You

13. Backscratcher

40 Song feb? yes. it’s real difficult.

so i’m farther behind than my cohort here…
i’ve got 4 finished songs, one half of one song (#4) and abuot 5 songs with just lyrics…. and one song i’m writing right now about tax parties.. that is… a suburban event where friends get together and "party" whilst helping eachother with taxes….
1. cold war months
2. job/divorce
3. confuse the two
4. little boy/fat man
5. in the 20’s

they all have something to do with Atomic Bombs and/or economoic depression.

i guess though, considering this comes out to 1.4 songs per day, that all those lyrics count as all the .4’s, so i’m not THAT far behind.
the trick is to write a song as if you’re trying to entertain someone right on the spot, improvising it and not feeling responsible for the quality.   hopefully i can actually manifest this mentality and help myself accomplish this goal.  i gotta be honest… with everything happening this month (primarily the PUSH concert on feb 27th www.myspace.com/niavepush), i don’t think i’m gonna make it.

today’s lyric is from job/divorce  (this isn’t a reference to an actual divorce in my life or in the lives of anyone around me)

"time to punch the clock when you’d rather shoot a shot
get to work, you’re lucky, cause the gov’t owns the lots
and the woman is a hag
but you got keys in your bag
so be gay
don’t worry
just arrive on time
same time everyday"

F. I. H. 2

6. I Suck At Friendship

7. Sleep, Walk & Blues

8. An Ode To Public Service (Featuring former President Richard Nixon)

February is hard

Unemplyment abounds and my gas bill keeps going up, St. Valetine’s Day is on the horizon and blah, blah, blah.

I hate February with a passion, writing 10 songs a week during this month is a challenge to be sure, but it is also a way of trying to focus that hatred and tap that passionate disgust for this stain on the calender.

For my part I shall not be giving away anythign but song titles for the moment as songs are finished. I will report more later as my will to live improves and my stress level increases the nearer we get to March, but, the work thus far has been rewarding and has produced:

1. The Februarian Revolt.

2. Mother/Daughter Dominatrix Team

3. "A Headlong Jump to a Predetermined Conclusion"

4. Vultures on LSD

5. Climb Back On My Horse

Holla!

Onarga.

p.s. If you see me and Carly soon and we’re wearing track jackets, please, don’t be taken aback by this, we’re just awesome, so awesome it’s kinda unreal.

40 Song February - First Post

So, Onarga and I have decided to attempt writing 40 songs a piece in February.

this is a chronicle.

I’ve requested that we do not devulge the actual demos of the songs until a listening party at the end… after whcih we will most likely post many of the songs in a rotaional fashion (is that sensical?).

But I’d like to chronicle song titles and maybe some lyrics.

Here goes.  song #1 Cold war months

February, improbably
the longest month of the year
two hands have to count the layers you wear
so it’s time to reconsider Nuclear Proliferation
cause it keeps the winter alive
and cold war months radiate in endless nights,
cause there’s never a better time to start a snowball fight.

out in a feild as white as snow powder
where guns will go
our shadows stick to the concrete
like angels where bodies should go
cause nuclear proliferation
keeps the expectations high
it’s just so dead it haunts your summer mind
but there’s never a better time to start a snowball fight
